New Trends of Current Social Stratification in Mainland China

中華人民共和国が成立してすでに五九年が経過した。その五九年の中、中国は、まれに見る規模での社会階層構造の変化に見舞われた。本論文は近年の中国で起きている社会構造、社会階層、社会移動の変化を議論し、中国社会の階層構造、貧富の格差、社会的格差と緊張の関係を分析する。その際、中国社会学の最近の理論を導入し、現在の中国社会に存在する中間階層の特殊性を明らかにする。また、「社会階層の構造化」と「階層利益の砕片化」という独自の概念を用いて社会階層と社会移動の中国的特徴を明らかにする。さらに、格差の拡大にもかかわらず、破局的な衝突が起きていないことも、最近の中国社会の特徴として指摘できる。最後に本論文は以下の結論を述べて終わる。社会利益の構造が多次元化する方向に向けて進展する中で、中国社会では、利益が多重的に絡み合うようになっており、壁の厚い分裂型分化ではなくなりつつある。社会学の視点から見て、階層利益の砕片化や社会利益の砕片化は、社会的な激動を緩和させ、社会の安定を有利に導くと思われる。厳しい格差が見られる中国社会でなぜ激しい社会的な不安定が起きていないかという質問には、以上の解説がある程度の答えとなるのではないだろうか。
[ Abstract ]
Over the past 59 years since the People's Republic of China was founded, great changes in Chinese social stratification structure have rarely been seen by the world. This paper discusses the changes in the social structure, social stratification and social mobility during the market transition period in mainland China in recent years. It analyzes the changes in the class system, the differentiation between the rich and poor, and the structural strain caused by the social differentiation. It introduces some theories of mainland sociologists and studies the structure and peculiarities of the mainland middle class. It proclaims the characteristics of mainland social stratification and mobility in “the structuration of social classes” and in “fragment of class interests”. Also, it explains the reasons for the contradiction between the conflict factors and the mitigated factors. In conclusion the paper argues that, since the social interest structure is developing towards the multi-variation, the multiple interests of society have been interwoven with each other, instead of the fissure-type distinction with rigid barricades. From the perspective of sociology, it is claimed, the fragmentation of social interests is beneficial for social stability. To some extent, it interprets why the Chinese rich-and-poor distinction is very severe on the one hand and has not led to any major social instability on the other hand.
