[ 要旨 ]

　個人間および集団間の流動性は、自尊心の高さや孤独感の低さなど、さまざまな望ましい結果と結びついている。しかしながら、流動性は社会的関係の変化を含むため、望ましくない心理的帰結をもたらす可能性もある。このような流動性の望ましい側面と望ましくない側面の重要性にもかかわらず、人々がどの程度、流動性を望ましい、または望ましくないと考えているのかを検証した研究はこれまでにない。本研究では、流動性に対する人々の態度とその背後にある理由を知るために、日本の回答者（n=1,848）を対象に、流動的な社会を人々がどのように認識しているかを検討した。社会における流動性の望ましさについて尋ねた結果、半数強の回答者（51.9％）が流動的な社会は望ましいと回答した一方で、流動的な社会は望ましくないと回答した回答者も一定数いた（12.2％）。年齢が高く、外向的ではない人ほど、流動的な社会は望ましくないと考える傾向が強かった。さらに、社会生態学的変数も分析に加えると、年齢の高さとしばしば関連する居住地流動性の低さは望ましくないという認識を予測した一方で、年齢の効果は非有意になった。流動性は望ましくないと回答した人々において、主要な懸念点として挙げられたのは、１）不安定な人間関係、２）不安定な生活、３）地域コミュニティへのコミットメントの低下であった。本研究結果は、人々の流動性についての認識と、そのような認識に寄与する要因ついての知見を提供するものである。

[ Abstract ]

　　Interpersonal and intergroup mobility is associated with various desirable psychological outcomes, such as elevated self-esteem and diminished loneliness. However, mobility entails changes in social relationships, which can bring undesirable psychological outcomes. Despite the importance of such desirable and undesirable aspects of mobility, no prior study has examined the extent to which people view mobility as desirable or undesirable. In the current study, we recruited a diverse sample of respondents in Japan (n = 1,848) to examine people’s attitudes toward mobility and the reasons behind these attitudes. When asked about the desirability of mobility in society, slightly more than half of the respondents (51.9%) reported mobility as desirable, while a notable proportion (12.2%) found it undesirable. Older and less extroverted individuals were more likely to regard mobility as undesirable. Furthermore, when socio-ecological factors were included in the analysis, lower residential mobility—often associated with older age—contributed to the undesirable view, while the effect of age became non-significant. Among the respondents who viewed mobility to be undesirable, the main concerns were 1) unstable relationships, 2) unstable lives, and 3) reduced commitment to a local community. These findings provide insight into people’s perceptions of mobility and the factors that contribute to such perceptions.
