【授業科目の概要】

政治学、国際政治学、政治社会学を専門とする4名の教員により、国内外の研究者を招聘し、セミナー形式で授業を行います。ゲストスピーカーが最先端の研究動向について、主に英語で研究報告を行います。その後、参加者と質疑応答を行い、教員による補足説明によって理解を深めます。セミナーはzoomを用いて行われ、言語は英語を主に用い、日本語を補足的に用います。
This is a course of seminars organized by four faculty members who specialize in politics, international relations, and political sociology. In each seminar an invited speaker will present his/her latest research. The talk will be followed by comments from the faculty members and discussion among all participants. The seminars will be held on Zoom, lectures and discussions will be mostly in English but Japanese can be used when necessary.

【到達目標】

この授業の目的は、社会学研究科の大学院生および学部生が、国内外の新しい研究動向に触れ、とりわけ英語による学術的コミュニケーション(プレゼンテーション、質疑応答)の技法を学ぶことです。さらに、将来海外の大学院で学ぶことを目指す学生が、キャリア形成の手がかりを得ることも目指します。
The aims of this course are (1) to familiarize graduate students and undergraduates with the latest political science research, (2) to help them get used to academic communication in English (especially presentations and discussions, and (3) provide ideas and information for students aiming to pursue graduate programs overseas.

本セミナーは主に社会学研究科の大学院生が、学会や研究会でのプレゼンテーションの技法を学ぶための講義です。ただし、最先端の学術研究に触れたい意欲ある学部生も参加することができます。
This course is primarily aimed at giving students in the Graduate School of Social Sciences practice in academic communication. But undergraduates keen to learn about the latest developments in political science research are also welcome to participate.

【文献】

毎回の課題文献は講義の中で指定します。
Reading assignment for each seminar will be provided in advance of the class.

【授業時間外の学習】

(1)毎回指定された課題文献を読んだうえでセミナーに参加すること。
Read the reading assignment before the seminar starts.
(2)毎回1〜2名のコメンテーターを指定する。
For each seminar one or two students will play the role of commentators.
(3)参加者全員はセミナー後に200字程度のコメントペーパーを提出する(日本語もしくは英語)。
After each seminar all students will submit a short comment paper (100 words in English, 200 characters in Japanese).

【成績評価の方法と基準】

セミナーの質疑への積極的な参加(40%)
コメントペーパーの提出(30%)
学期末レポート(30%)
以上の合計による相対評価
Active participation in discussions (40%)
Submission of comment papers (30%)
Submission of final report (30%)
Students will be ranked based on their total scores.

・この授業は大学院生向けの科目を、学部生にも一部開放しているものです。他の学部科目とは開催形式が異なり、通年科目となっていますので、初回のオリエンテーションをよく聞いたうえで履修してください。
This course is designed for graduate students, but some undergraduates are also welcome. Its format is different from other undergraduate courses (e.g., in lasting the whole year) so make sure to come to the orientation before you decide to sign up for this course.

・海外のゲストスピーカーを招聘する場合、時差の関係上、開講時間が水曜日の他の時間帯にずれる場合があります。その場合には履修者の不利にならないよう、前もって調整を行いますので、ご了承いただければ幸いです。
When we have a speaker based overseas, we may need to change the time of the class to accommodate time differences. We will do our best to find a time that as many students as possible can attend, and ask for your understanding.
